We’re at the European Society for Immunodeficiencies’ online meeting, exploring how Takeda can continue to meet multiple and evolving patient needs

This week, the IG team are joining hundreds of bright minds at the European Society for Immunodeficiencies
(ESID)’s first ever fully virtual meeting, to tackle the challenges that face people living with
immunodeficiencies, both primary and secondary, every day.

Primary immunodeficiency (PID) occurs when part of the immune system does not work properly or is
missingand causes people to have infections that come back frequently or are difficult to cure.It is
estimated to affect 6 million people worldwide with a huge 70–90% of the affected population living
undiagnosed.1

In contrast, secondary immunodeficiency (SID) occurs when the immune system is weakened by another
treatment or illness, such as HIV, certain cancers or chemotherapy.1 The signs and symptoms of SID are the
same as for PID, with frequent and prolonged infections, however SID has been estimated to be 30-fold
more common than PID.3,4

Now, more than ever, it is important to support people living with immunodeficiencies, their carers and
healthcare professionals (HCPs), to ensure the best quality care can be delivered during this difficult time. At
Takeda, we are proud to be at the forefront of cutting-edge innovation and research, collaborating with
partners such as the ESID community to ensure that the unmet evolving needs of patients and HCPs can be
met.

We are committed to continuing to raise awareness of what it is like to live with an immunodeficiency. Hear
from our Patient Ambassadors to learn more about how every journey with PID is unique, by watching our
