Embracing Diversity and Inclusion in an Expanding Global Workplace

Takeda has a greater global reach than ever before. As a newly integrated company, we have expanded our footprint to approximately 80 countries and regions with over 30 languages and dialects spoken. This broad, global reach provides great diversity in our organization, and our core, unchanged values – Integrity, Fairness, Honesty, and Perseverance – continue to guide us to create the best possible workplace for all. As Padma Thiruvengadam, Takeda’s Chief Human Resources Officer, shares: “Driven by our Values, we aim to create a purposeful, inclusive, and positive workplace for every Takeda employee. We are a dynamic, patient-focused organization where our people are empowered to shine and are given the tools to achieve their personal, professional goals.”

By embracing the advantages that increased diversity has to offer, we put ourselves in the best possible position to represent our patients around the globe – this is a core component of the new Takeda and essential for continued growth.

Workplace diversity is integral to how we operate and should be visible at every level of our organization. Our Takeda Executive Team is comprised of 11 different nationalities, and one in three members are female. Gender representation in our workforce is near equal, with 53% male and 47% female. The proportion of global managerial positions held by women has also grown to 37%. Our ongoing commitment to diversity is embedded in our corporate culture and reflected in key initiatives such as the Takeda Leadership Program, which aims to empower and elevate our people by offering them transformative opportunities for professional and personal growth.

In recognition of our efforts, we were recently certified as a Global Top Employer for the second year running by The Top Employers Institute. While we are delighted by this achievement, we recognize the importance of remaining determined and committed to further developing our employee proposition. Our top 200 leaders - who assembled in January for the first time since the integration - will play a key role in building diversity and inclusivity at the local level as well as ensuring the successful execution of our updated operating model.

The building of a new Takeda offers many exciting challenges and opportunities. As a global biopharmaceutical leader, we understand that diversity is key to driving creative and innovative R&D. We firmly believe that a culture of inclusivity – one which emphasizes support, openness, and teamwork - is essential to bring our people together as a united, global team. We will continue to create the best possible place to work for our employees. Only through this pledge can we deliver the best possible results for our patients.
