Digital Innovation for Better Disease Management in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)

Utilizing wearable technology to transform the care of patients living with IBD

Takeda is making the most of recent digital innovations to provide new tools for managing IBD. In September 2016, we launched a pilot digital technology program with Texas Digestive Disease Consultants and Vanderbilt University Medical Center to support patients and physicians with the management of IBD.

The pilot project, iBData, is designed to intersect healthcare and digital technologies and will allow patients with IBD to track their symptoms and lifestyle factors with wearable technology. In this project, approximately 100 people with IBD are using a special wearable device to track their symptoms and lifestyle factors. The data will be collected and translated into reports intended to help enhance patient-physician interaction with the goal of improved care.
Our goal is to understand if combining wearable technology, mobile health applications and the patient's provider will result in improved IBD care through better dialogue and understanding of patients' symptoms. By empowering patients to capture real-time monitoring of their symptoms, our hope is that this will ultimately result in better disease control and improved IBD care.
Whether it is engaging people with IBD in the development of clinical trials or providing the tools people with IBD and their physicians need for better disease management, Takeda is approaching patient in IBD from a holistic perspective. With this approach, we hope to deepen our understanding of IBD to improve patient outcomes.
