Climb to Fight Cancer

A group of cancer survivors, researchers and entrepreneurs looking to raise $1 million for cancer research is taking fundraising to new heights. Joined by our very own Karuppiah Kannan, Global Program Leader in the Oncology Therapeutic Area Unit at Takeda, the team will trek more than 17,500 feet above sea level to the Mount Everest Base Camp in the Himalayas.

This trek brings together a diverse cross section of the cancer community to raise awareness and funds to help eradicate cancer. 

Before beginning this journey, Kannan and the rest of the Luke Timmerman’s Everest Base Camp Trekking Team will spend several weeks training independently and in small groups to prepare for the Himalayan hike.

While the physicality of this climb may sound daunting, Kannan – who has dedicated his life to fighting cancer as a scientist and researcher – is up to the task.

The trip is scheduled for March 23 through April 8 of this year and all funds raised will benefit the Fred Hutch Cancer Research Center. To date, the research and development efforts of this organization have been behind major advances in cancer care, including the development of bone marrow transplants for leukemia and initiatives leading to earlier diagnosis and more effective treatment options.
