In 2021, 60 employees at the Neuchâtel manufacturing site created a collective vegetable garden on the premises of the site. More than 1,000 square meters have been transformed into a ‘Permaculture Area’.
The idea was to offer employees the opportunity to manage their own or shared piece of land through a collective self-managed initiative, allowing to grow and harvest their own fruits & vegetables.
The garden was designed by a permaculture designer who provided employees with an online training. In less than three months employees were ready to build their own organic vegetable garden.
On top employees came together to build a hedgehog house, fill insect hostels and plant berry trees to facilitate biodiversity.
Employees from our Hikari manufacturing site in Japan have visited schools to help the next generation of innovators build a more sustainable future.
Members of the EHS team visited the Yamato Junior High School, which many of them attended, to highlight the importance of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to the students. They shared Takeda’s commitment and initiatives that align with these goals.
Takeda Nordics has conducted a sustainability challenge with its employees. They were set a task to share their ideas for site initiatives to help protect our planet.
A total of 26 ideas were submitted.
Winners of the challenge included: “Reduce Plastic Waste by Avoiding Purchase and Use of Plastics in all Areas”; “Garbage Sorting at the Office to Allow Recycling”; “Waste Sorting, Organic Vegan Food”; “Avoid Paper Use by Stop Printing (Don’t be Trashy)”.
The first of a planned 240 trees have been planted by employees at our Lessines site in Belgium. That’s one for every year in Takeda’s history. Colleagues also took part in a waste collection activity, picking up litter from the site and surrounding public areas.
In collaboration with the non-profit organization Pro Vélo, the employees used electric bicycles to travel from one green initiative to another. The site also welcomed journalists to discover the different activities through a guided bike tour.
A new central waste storage was inaugurated, where generated waste is segregated to increase the recycling rate on site. To raise awareness about the importance of waste recycling, a waste reduction challenge for site employees was held.
